Somra El Nubia began dancing under the direction of Clara Brooks at Elmwood
Elementary in St. Louis, Mo in the late 60's. Somra performed with
Mrs. Brooks' group "The Crumb Crunchers" for a St. Louis show known as
the "St. Louis Hop". Because of Somra's love of dance, she took interest
in Middle Eastern Dance. She studied under the direction of Anne Marie of University
City, Mo. Later, began studying under Simone Prouty in the late 70's.
Somra continues to study and teach. She provides private lessons from her home and also instructs
at the West Florissant YMCA. Somra has performed at various festivals in many cities
and around the St. Louis area. Somra also studies West African under the direction
of Artie Hamilton, "Spirit of Angela".
Somra gives thanks to all of her teachers and is thankful for all she has learned.
